Strip Dash Scrappy Baby Quilt Reveal
It's been a while since I've gotten the chance to do a new quilt reveal! Things had been oh-so-busy around here on the tech-editing side of things (a good problem to have), but it's meant less time for my own sewing. Top that off with general summer craziness, and well, you know how it is. So I'm all the more excited to finally be sharing this finished bright, happy scrappy baby version of the Strip Dash quilt!
I used leftover jelly roll strips from a previous quilt for the colored strips and then a range of low-volume fabrics for the background. (The colored strips are from Panache, an older collection by Rebecca Bryan for Robert Kaufman.) The baby size is perfect for using up remaining bits of jelly rolls because it only requires 10 2.5" x WOF strips! (That also means you could make four baby quilts from most jelly rolls (which generally contain 42 strips) -- a great idea if you're trying to put together a few quilts to donate to charity.)
As always, the fabulous quilting is by Trace Creek Quilting. Lilo used the Two Simple panto by Crystal Smythe in a white thread.
It was fun to add a few extra “flourishes” to the binding of this otherwise pretty simple version. For the stitching, I used my new "stick and stitch" big-stitch binding technique (full tutorial here) in a white sashiko thread (this one's my favorite*). Then, I made the binding from leftover scraps of the pieced backing. If you have your longarmer trim your quilts, be sure to always ask them to return the scraps. Especially on a smaller quilt, like this baby size, the leftover backing scraps are usually enough to use for the binding! If it’s pieced, so much the better! The piecing adds interest to the binding, too, like the little light blue crosshatch sections here.

I've got another baby quilt finish to share soon, so stay tuned!
