Heart Pinnies Galore

As you probably know by now, I love making pincushions, especially small ones (evidence here and here to start). But once I brought my Maker’s Heart paper-piecing pattern into existence, the obsession has gone up a whole other notch. It’s heart pinnies galore around here!

Of course, there were the cover beauties from the pattern. I could never have too much of that Rifle Paper Co. Garden Party floral. Combined with some Essex yarn-dyed linen and low-volume scraps, it’s so scrumptious.

The mini pinnies below were made from my first tester blocks for the Maker’s Heart pattern, so the heart is a little off-center (don’t worry, the templates in the pattern are right). These four are available at a slight discount in the shop. The three square ones would make a precious set!⁣ Throughout this post, the rectangular pincushions measure 2 ½” x 4 ½”, and the square ones measure 3 ½” square.

And while I had my scraps out, I decided it wouldn’t hurt to make two more. The teal heart is from the final template of the Maker’s Heart pattern (look at that beautifully centered heart!), while I took advantage of some fussy cutting of a Ruby Star Society selvage to make the aqua pottery one using my Little Town mini pinnies tutorial.

Each pincushion is backed with Essex yarn-dyed linen or a coordinating fabric and filled with a mix of crushed walnut shells and tiny batting and fabric scraps. They are sewn closed by hand for an invisible closure. If you want to add one to your hand-sewing kit, you can find all of them in the shop here.
