Strip Dash Release Day!
Today is my 39th birthday (SO close to the big one), and I can’t imagine a better way to celebrate than with a quilt-pattern release! I’m so excited to introduce the latest in my collection of beginner-level, precut-friendly patterns, the Strip Dash quilt!
Strip Dash is a simple yet striking modern take on the classic coin quilt. While the instructions are written for two color groupings (the main Color Group A and the accent Color Group B), there are so many options for switching it up to use all one colorway or lots of different colorways. The pattern is also scrap and jelly roll friendly! Using a jelly roll or scraps will obviously make for a scrappier version, but it also makes this an even faster quilt to put together, which means less time before you have a beautiful piece to snuggle under. The pattern includes all the instructions you’ll need to modify it for jelly rolls or scraps, as well as fabric requirements for both versions.
I am in love with the amazing Judy Jarvi-designed fabric I used for the backing. It’s called Wildwood in Midnight from her Summer School collection for Windham Fabrics. I’m really tempted to go buy up lots more of this one for future projects (because, let’s be honest, there will be more teal/aqua/citron quilts in my future). It’s such a lovely take on a floral print, and the colors are just ***chef’s kiss***.
For most of the binding, I used the same Kona solid as the background to create a simple frame, but I interspersed a few scrappy segments from the accent blocks for a bit of interest. The pattern includes tips for doing this if you’d like to replicate the look.
The cover quilt is the Throw size. It was pieced and bound by me and quilted by Lilo Whitener-Fey of Trace Creek Quilting. The quilting panto is called Pineapple Skin and was designed by Karlee Porter. It’s been on my list of quilting designs to use for quite awhile, and I was so chuffed to be able to finally employ it here. I love the angles and movement it adds to the straight lines of this pattern design. We used a light aqua thread for the quilting, inspired by the colors in the backing fabric.
The fabrics in the cover quilt include the following: the background is Kona cotton solid in Everglade by Robert Kaufman, the tan and white strips are various fabrics from the First Light collaborative collection by Ruby Star Society, and the citron fabrics are a selection of fabrics from my personal stash (if you’re looking to recreate this look, the citron fabrics can easily be substituted with a number of fabrics in the same color currently available).
The pattern includes four sizes: baby, throw, twin, and full/queen, so you’ve got lots of options!
I’ve got more posts planned to show off the other versions I made, so stay tuned to the blog. In the meantime, pick up your copy here to get started on your own version!
