Ombré Stars Table Runner (Tutorial)

Here in the States, Independence Day is just around the corner, and with it often comes all the red, white, and blue decor. I don’t often make decorations for many holidays other than Christmas, but one spring, I was really itching to add a little color to my dining-room table and got excited about the idea of a table runner of scattered stars in a range of colors. The result was the Ombré Stars Table Runner tutorial I created for the Havel’s Sewing blog, and with that colorful holiday on the horizon, this seemed like the perfect time to bring back this classic (and readily adaptable) tutorial for new readers.

In its original red, white, and blue iteration, this design is perfect for your Memorial Day or Fourth of July celebrations, but you could also easily change up the colors for any number of looks. Try an array of springy pastels for Easter; shades of gold, red, and orange for fall; an ombré of hues of a single color; or maybe even a rainbow, as the mock-ups below illustrate.

In my original runner, I used matching threads in each color to straight-line quilt each section separately. I stitched in the ditch around each star but left the actual stars unquilted so they would “pop.” Using a white-on-white print for the backing helped to show off the changing thread colors and made another ombré design on the back.

You can find the full tutorial right here. Why not grab some solids from your stash and put one together this weekend for your holiday table?!
