Strip Dash: A New Modern Service Quilts Collaboration
Long time, no see, everyone! I’ve missed being around here. We had a crazy summer full of camps, travel, sickness, and lots more, with just a bit of sewing thrown in, so I haven’t gotten to share here nearly as much as I’d like. But the kids are back in school, and things are starting to resume their normal flow, which means you’ll be seeing lots more of me — and trust me, I’ve got lots to show you — starting with the reveal of my second collaboration with Modern Service Quilts, an organization founded by me and two friends that’s devoted to getting more modern honor quilts into the hands of veterans and service members. Meet the newest version of Strip Dash!
Strip Dash is a simple yet striking modern take on the classic coin quilt that was inspired by the stripes of the American flag. For this version, I fully embraced the red, white, and blue color scheme to double down on the flag inspiration, making it perfect for any young vet. This is the larger twin size, which gives you more length for covering the longest legs and includes more blocks to fully show off those stripes.
It was quilted by Lilo Whitener-Fey of Trace Creek Quilting using the Traveling Trapezoids digital pantograph designed by Crystal Smythe.
I’ll be sharing more later in the month, but in the meantime, check out the MSQ blog for an interview with me all about the Strip Dash pattern, my connections to MSQ and the military, and more thoughts on making service quilts for others. As the featured design collaborator for the month of September, I’ll be donating 75% of the September proceeds from the pattern to the National Association of Minority Veterans (NAMVETS).
