Heart of Hearts Tester Quilts
It’s time for a roundup of the other test quilts that went into making the Heart of Hearts pattern! The cover quilt is sweet and pink, but if that’s not your thing, no worries because the pattern can go in so many directions. My wonderful friend Christine (@oh.sew.christine) created a Twin version using Alexia Marcella Abegg’s Heirloom fabric collection, and I am digging everything about it and the pictures she took. That barn! Those borders! They’re perfection.
Christine’s quilt was quilted by Lilo at Trace Creek Quilting with another fabulous heart panto. Lilo has so many great quilting options! Oh, and this entire twin-size quilt was made from start to finish (quilted and bound) in less than a week, so believe me when I say, this is a fast quilt to make!
I also made a second Throw quilt that was actually the original cover quilt until I realized the colors made it super hard to photograph. I still love this one so much, but it just reads better in person than on camera. The background is Essex Yarn-Dyed Homespun in Orangeade. The hearts are made from several fabrics from Carolyn Friedlander’s Collection CF and Carkai collections, along with Spark in Metallic Roadster Red by Melody Miller, which was also used for the binding.
Lilo also quilted this version using the same Rainbow Hearts panto she used on the cover quilt (it was so good that I had to use it again).
Finally, I made a rainbow version of the Baby quilt that showcases what a layer-cake or scrappy version of the quilt would look like, with each heart in a different fabric. This one is pure happiness, and I can’t imagine a new parent who wouldn’t love to receive a version like this.
It’s on my list to quilt soon, and I’m hoping to add some hand-sewn details to it. The solids are a mix of Kona, Moda Bella, and Art Gallery solids from my stash, and the background is Speckled in White Gold by Rashida Coleman-Hale.
