Fabric Palette Friday #17: Scandi Rainbow
Happy Fabric Palette Friday! For today’s bundle, we’re circling back around to the idea of using an inspiration print to create a palette. Oftentimes, the print becomes part of the bundle, or in the case of quilts, perhaps it’s included as the backing to show it off in all its uncut glory. But using prints for their colors alone is also a great way to create a palette. I purchased this fabulous Scandinavia-inspired print (it’s the Patterned Rounds print from Sally Payne's NORDISKA collection) from Stash Fabrics back in the fall and have been staring at it ever since. I still have no idea how I’ll end up using it, but the colors were so fun that I knew they’d make a great bundle, so I headed straight to my solids.
Because there are so many colors in this print, you could go lots of directions when creating a palette. You could, for instance, choose to focus just on the cool colors or just on the warm colors, or you could limit yourself to just one shade of each color (instead of multiple pinks/corals, for example, like in my bundle), but I wanted to go all in and try to pull out every color I could match up, leading to an unusual rainbow palette that includes everything from stone and tan browns to mustard, coral, teal, and navy.
This would be a great pairing to use the inspiration print as the center of a star or log cabin and then use the solids to build out around it. Hmmm…off to my sewing studio!
