Hearts Aren’t Just for Valentine’s
Is anyone else amazed that it’s almost February already? We came back from winter break and hit the ground running and before we knew it, January was gone! Today, the kiddos are bundled up at home with us on another “snow day” (the second in less than a week that’s really been an “ice day” — which is to say, the least exciting kind of snow day — so we’re all trying to find our own space in the house and get a little work done. For me, that’s meant dreaming about hearts.
It’s no secret that hearts are a classic motif in quilting and for good reason. They can take so many forms and have so many uses. Plus, at its heart (pun intended), quilting is an act of making that lets us produce a tangible, tactile expression of our love for ourselves or others. Of course, that sometimes takes the form of the most classic symbol of love — the heart.
With Valentine’s Day around the corner, heart quilts are everywhere on social media and sewing blogs, but hearts aren’t just for Valentine’s! If you want to create your own heart quilt for the holiday, you definitely still have time to put together a Heart of Hearts quilt — it’s quick, simple, and layer-cake friendly! — but I thought it would be fun to put together some Heart of Hearts mockups that would be a joy to create any time of year.
