Guild Secret Sewing

If you’re a member of the Modern Quilt Guild, you may have noticed the new article of mine that was published in this month’s MQG Journal. (You can preview it here; only MQG members have access to read it. For information on joining the MQG, click here.)

Quilters love to make quilts to commemorate special events or as a show of thanks. If you’ve ever been in a guild or sewing group, you’ve almost certainly come to a point where a particularly wonderful leader or member has decided to step down, and the rest of the group decides they’d like to make a quilt for them. But where do you start, and how do you keep the recipient from finding out? As a current member and former secretary and president of the St. Louis Modern Quilt Guild, I’ve been on both the planning and receiving ends of such a task, and I wrote the article to share lots of tips and guidance to make such an effort successful. It was a fun one to write, and it was especially fun to reflect back on some of the quilts I’ve worked on or received. They’re always extra special because you can feel all of the hands that went into making them. I hope you enjoy the article!
