Folded in Love Reveal Day!

After months of work, countless test sample quilts (no, not countless, 10), and a whole bunch of tweaking (because I can’t leave well enough alone), I am thrilled to finally introduce my first quilt pattern, Folded in Love.

Folded in Love was one of the first quilts dreamed up by the team behind Modern Service Quilts, an organization founded by me and two friends that’s devoted to getting more modern honor quilts into the hands of veterans and service members. The quilt is directly based on the MSQ logo, which was designed by Angela Armstrong, and it was my pleasure to bring it to life in the hopes that many makers will be able to use this pattern for comforting quilts of all sorts. We’ll be sharing lots of photos and info about the MSQ version of the quilt on the MSQ blog this month.

For the cover quilt, I decided it was only right for my first pattern to embrace my favorite colors and types of fabric to use, so bring on the teal and chambray! The background of the cover quilt is a Robert Kaufman chambray; colors 1-4 are Ink in Thunder from Amy Sinibaldi’s Sonata collection, Netorious in Teal and Mishmesh in Ice Box by Cotton + Steel, and Bees in Sage from Elizabeth Hartman’s Berry Season collection. The backing is Berries in Water from Jennifer Sampou's Winter Shimmer 2 collection, and the binding is Knotty in Royal from Rashida Coleman-Hale's Macrame collection.

The cover quilt is the Throw size. It was pieced and bound by me and quilted by Lilo Whitener-Fey of Trace Creek Quilting. The quilting panto is Jessica’s Twinkle by Jessica Schick. I really love how the teal quilting pops off the chambray. It truly does “twinkle”!

I’ve got more posts planned to show off those other nine versions (gulp!), so stay tuned to the blog. In the meantime, check out the MSQ blog for an interview with me all about the Folded in Love pattern, my connections to MSQ and the military, and more thoughts on making service quilts for others. As the featured design collaborator for the month of November, I’ll be donating 75% of the November proceeds from the pattern to the National Association of Minority Veterans (NAMVETS). Pick up your copy here and do a little good in the world!
