Fabric Palette Friday #29: Spring Chicken
Happy Fabric Palette Friday! Can you believe it’s been almost a year since I posted one of these? Let’s just say things have been busy around here. But this palette is so delightful that it would be a darn shame to let it pass us by. A few days ago, I posted the new Spring Chicken pattern, and if you caught sight of it, you might have also noticed this luscious stack of spring color and texture.
When I started dreaming up the Spring Chicken blocks, I knew I wanted to use a rainbow of soft spring colors. But it’s even better when you can add some texture as well, especially in a project so small, where each fabric is going to count for a lot.
I decided on a beautiful array of woven fabrics in the most delightful spring colors. Most of them are Wildflower Wovens by Suzy Quilts, but there are also a few Fableism and Essex yarn-dyed wovens thrown in for additional color and texture. Aren’t they lovely??
They make you want to just reach through the screen and pet them, don’t they? In my sewing, I often combine wovens with quilting cottons (solids or prints), but it’s also such a pleasure to use wovens exclusively in some projects. And since modern fabric companies are now making wovens in a huge variety of colors, designs, and textures, you have so much to choose from!
Here are a few of my favorite woven collections/brands:
Fableism
Wildflower Wovens by Suzy Quilts for Art Gallery Fabrics
Essex (all varieties) by Robert Kaufman Fabrics
Cotton chambrays (all varieties) by Robert Kaufman Fabrics and Tilda Fabrics
Neon Neppy by Robert Kaufman Fabrics
Carolina Gingham by Robert Kaufman Fabrics
Kitchen Window Wovens by Elizabeth Hartman for Robert Kaufman Fabrics
Warp and Weft collections by Alexia Abegg for Ruby Star Society
Kaleidoscope Wovens by Alison Glass for Andover Fabrics
Leave a comment and let me know what colors you’re working with this week. Are you a fellow lover of wovens? Have a favorite online fabric shop or wovens collection you’d like to shout out in the comments? Go for it!
