Fabric Palette Friday #23: Favorite Blue Jeans

Happy Fabric Palette Friday! With the Fourth of July holiday coming up this weekend in the U.S., I thought I’d reach back a bit to a palette that makes me think of my favorite blue jeans mixed with just a hint of patriotism and vintage Americana. I originally put this bundle together when I was making one of the sample quilts for Modern Service Quilts. Some of the fabrics changed before they made their way into the final quilt, but I love everything about this original bundle.

The bundle mostly consists of a variety of chambrays and other blue fabrics from my stash. Chambrays, woven fabrics, and linen blends add so much interest and texture to a bundle — one of the reasons I love adding them in so often. And there’s no shortage of great options out there — Robert Kaufman Essex Yarn-Dyed and Essex Yarn-Dyed Homespun linen blends are personal favorite and come in so many colors beyond blue, Robert Kaufman’s House of Denim collection is chambray central, and Art Gallery Fabrics has an impressively large collection of chambrays in their Denim Studio collection. I broke up the chambrays and wovens with a few navy and white prints, which add a different design element as well as a textural contrast. The white dot (which became the background in the sample quilt) is Lori Holt’s Pin Dot in black — a perfect random dot print. Add in a small pop of a pinky red, and you’re all set.
