Fabric Palette Friday #22: Coral Floral
Happy Fabric Palette Friday! Last week focused on solids; this week, we’re all about wovens. You might think I started this palette with the floral canvas print on top (an older Rifle Paper Co. print for Cotton + Steel), but it actually started with a small stack of Essex yarn-dyed linens. I keep my woven fabrics stored separately from my prints (like I do with solids), and as I sorted through the yarn-dyeds, the canvas print caught my eye and clearly needed to be thrown into the mix.
Once I did that, I decided to also pull in a few prints to really highlight the range of colors in the floral print, which I couldn’t mimic using my wovens stash alone. In addition to color, the prints also bring additional movement and shapes to interest the eyes, which helps the canvas print to stand out less. If it was the only print in a sea of solid-colored wovens, it would really stick out. This way, it’s still clearly the focal print, but it becomes one of several prints to take in when your eye moves across the bundle (and the quilt you might imagine using these in), and everything flows together more smoothly.
