Who Doesn’t Love Coffee and Cookies? Show Your Appreciation to Teachers and More with a Homemade Mug Rug (Free Pattern)!

Just in time for Teacher Appreciation Week, I’m swooping in with a new free pattern just for you! The Coffee and a Cookie pattern turns simple embroidery into a sweet mug rug sized just right for a cookie and a cup of coffee or tea. A simple handmade gift combined with homemade cookies and a coffee-shop gift card is the perfect way to show your children’s teachers you appreciate them. But the pattern lends itself to gifts for lots of people beyond teachers, so use it to show some love to anyone in your life!

The pattern includes digital templates for the embroidery text (both coffee and tea variations), as well as instructions for turning your finished work into a mug rug. It also includes links to embroidery resources, as well as my preferred supplies.

Grab a copy in the shop today, and you’ll be able to work up a whole batch of gifts by Monday (or maybe Wednesday). Don’t worry, it’s Teacher Appreciation Week, not Day. And if you’re looking for a good cookie recipe to pair with it, I love just about everything from Sarah Kieffer (of The Vanilla Bean Blog and 100 Cookies cookbook fame), and Christina Lane’s (Dessert for Two) chocolate-chip cookie recipe (pictured above, with mini M&Ms subbed in for the chocolate chips) is great for small-batch baking. Happy sewing (and baking — or, err, buying cookies from the store, no shame)!
